Business Communications

Business Communication was a vary useful class because I learned how to write reports, resumes, and proposals. Classes were good and interesting. But I did not like the textbook for this class. Chapters are so long, and sometimes it is not clear of what they want students to understand. The homework was very intensive, and it is good because we had to do what the professor required. That class taught me a lot, and doing presentations, resumes, agendas, and proposals at the end of the semester was very educative.

College Students

Get a job in today’s world is hard because of high competition and financial crisis. Students must look for a job earlier when they are in college. The earlier they start, the better it will be for them. But to get a job, students should not party all the time. They have to be involved in on-campus clubs and organizations and sports. According to the article, about 10 recent grads said that jobs they are in do not require four-year degree. It is a difficult decision to make what major to apply, but it must the field of study that people really like. College life is not easy, so students must work hard and put a great effort toward searching jobs. Of course, due to financial instability unemployment rate for student grows up. However, if students show themselves in school and college as communicative, hard-working, and purposeful persons, they will get a job they want.

One Week is left

Spring Semester 2011 will end in one week. Everybody is looking forward to go back home. The last week will mostly be a review week because students will prepare for exams. The weather is not warm, and I hope it will be sunny and warm next week and during the finals week. Students must focus only on their classes, and work hard for ten days until the semester is over. Spring semester passed quickly, and the summer break is not far away.

Oligopoly

Oligopoly is a when a few sellers dominate the market. They offer similar or identical products. Later it becomes a game theory situation, where players decide to cooperate with each other or to compete. Players will be better off if they compete in the short period and cooperate on the long period. Based on the game theory, prisoner's dillema appears. It is a game between two firms or people, and they choose to compete or cooperate. When prisoner's dillema occurs, players choose their dominant strategy which is the best strategy for each player regardless of the chosen strategy of other players. Oligopoly is a difficult thing especially when players start to play a game.

Wedding

Weddings are on of the most happiest events in life. People who marry are nervous and happy at the same time because they will live without thier parents, and it is a completely a new life. Prince Willian will marry soon, and two thousand guests will be at this wedding. Kyrgyz new marrieds usually invite about 500 people at weddings. But they can invite more if they are able to invite such amount of people and pay fot it. Weddings are good, but it is expensive. A lot of money goes to celebrate a wedding. People who are going to marry must be good in financial planning because they can estimate and save enough money to run a wedding.

Estate Planning

Estate planning is the passage of your wealth to your heirs. This is very important thing in life. People must make wills, trusts, or gifts to make sure that their heirs will receive inheritance. Estate planning is made for the event that after person's death, there will not be a fight over the estate between heirs. It is not a simple process because it includes many procedures. A lot of forms must be filled out, and people need to select executors of the will, beneficiaries, guardians for children, and power attorneys. This will make beneficiaries' life easier and property will be distributed according to wishes if the estate planning is done.

Final Weeks

The Spring Semester will end soon. It will end in three weeks. The weather is not warm, and everybody hopes that it will be warm before they leave the campus. Those weeks will be intense because most projects will be due during that period. Semester passed quickly. Going back home after the school for break is a great feelings, especially if someone has not been at home for a long time. Not a lof time is left, so students must do their best to finish the year and go back home happy.

Hot Dog Day

Hot Dog Day will be tomorrow on Saturday, April 16. It is going to be a funny and interesting day. Hot Dog Festival will be on the Main Street of Alfred village. People hope that tomorrow weather will be warm, but according to forecast it is going to rain. Students from Alfred State and Alfred University and commuters will celebrate this day. A lot of hot dogs will be tommorow available to eat. This day is an annual holiday. Hopefully this day will be good, so people will have something to remember.

Poetry Evening!

The poetry evening was held in Allegany Room on April 13, 2011. Professors from english and science departments came to this event. Professors were talking about poetry and how poetry influenced their lives. President Hunter was also speaking about poetry. He was a president of Alfred State College in 1980s. Later Jerry Fong, professor of chemstry, presented his presentation about chemistry and its relationship to poetry. His presentation was interesting, and then he read some poems. Poetry is the one more thing where people can express their desires, ideas, and thoughts.

Honors Convocation 2011

On April 10 was the 27th Annual Honors Convocation in the Orvis Auditorium. Too many people came there. Students, parents, relatives, friends, and faculty members were at this event. President Anderson, professors, and special guests gave speech. The interesting speech gave Andy Glanzman. He is the CEO of Northern Lights Candles. His speech was about success and how to be a successful person. Later students got their awards and had a banquet. It was a good event because students were recognized for their achievements and success.

Team Working

Working in teams is very useful. Creating teams of 3-5 people will result in more productivity than working individually. Different people are involved in team decision process, and people might be from another cultures. Foreigners can share their experience with other people and tell their thoughts. It will improve humans' ability to communicate with others too. The process of making a decision is faster because more people involved and more choices are available. It will engage people to work cooperatively and show respect to the whole group. Teams are a good tool to make decisions faster and better.

Kyrgyz Revolution

On April 7th, 2010, was a revolution in Kyrgyzstan. It is a country in Central Asia. 84 people died while they tried to seize the White House. It was very scary and situation in the country was unstable. That night many riots occured in Bishkek. This is the capital of Kyrgyzstan. People were not satisfied of former president and his regulations, so they decided to change the government. President fled the country, and new people took the country under control. The fisrt half of 2010 was very tense and outrageous. The ethnic clash occured in June 2010 after the revolution between Kyrgyz and Uzbek. The clash lasted three days, and it was stopped with the help of public squads and police. It is quite in Kyrgyzstan now. Today was commemoration marsh and meeting. Kyrgyz citizens hope that it will be calm, and such bad events will never occur again.

April 4th

Monday of April 4th was like an evening. It was dark and cloudy, and it rained. Today in classes, I learned sone new things. I learnt about estate planning, and how to make your estates tax-free and to avoid probate. Also, we covered monopoly in Microeconomics class and policies toward monopoly. In my first class, I reviewed how to document work. It was about how to give credits to somebody's works and ideas.

Summer Job or Summer Classes

Increase in tuition makes students to find summer jobs. This issue arises a lot of questions about taking extra classes or find a job. Getting a job for students in summer is a good thing because they can get experience. Students earn money during the summer and be able to pay off the loan or to pay part of the tuition by themselves. If students found a job that relate to what they want and to their field, it is a good opportunity to know how to apply knowledge to work learned in college.
Studying during the summer can allow students to graduate school sooner because they can take extra credits. They will be available to get out of school at 21 years old.
Students should go to school because summer courses are almost all online, and those course will not be counted as real physical classes. Students must study and get a part-time job during the summer, but be able to review materials they learned during the year. They should be able to match their school schedule with job. Students should be a high-qualified workers in their field when they graduate from school, so it is more important to get knowledge than go to work full-time job early. After graduating a school, they can find a job that meet their needs and pay off their loans and earn money. It will be more efficient to if they will study eight months and get a part-time job during the summer because they will go to actual classes during the academic year and make themselves busy in summer.

Websites

Creating a website is a very hard process. Creators should consider color, site architecture, layout, meta tags, and key words before creating a website. Websites can be created on special websites like Wix.com or Webs.com. Knowing your audience and choosing appropriate strategy can help attract more vitiors to the website. Establishing your own website depends a lot on marketing because the aim is to attract customers and convince them that your product is good. Menus, toolbars, and color design should be well-organized, and pages must be in good contrast. Many retail stores switch to sell their product on the web because it is a convenient way to offer things.

Spring.

Spring is a wonderful season because the weather is warmer, and all plants change to the green color. But March was cold in Alfred compared to other cities abroad. I love spring because it is sunny. When it is sunny outside, more people are able to do more things they have to do. April will be in 3 days. The first day of April might be funny because it is April's Fools day. Classes will finish in six weeks, and students will be on the summer break which is the best break of all breaks. I hope the weather will be warmer in April, and this time of the season will leave a lot of good memories.

Swimming Practice

I did not swim for a whole month. Today I went to the pool and swam. It was hard to swim because I have not been swimming for a month. I barely did thousand warmup. I swam for half an hour, and then I was working on my flip turns and starts. The water was warm. One of my friends from swimming team to the pool too, so we practiced together. It was a good hour practice on Friday evening.

Spring Is the Winter

It is almost April. Today is March 23rd, and the weather outside is bad. It is cold and windy. When I woke up this morning, I could not believe that it was snowing outside. Everything was white, and reminded me of the middle of January. Weather conditions now are very similar to those in January. Of course, classes were canceled. The winter in Afred is five months instead of four. I hope it was the last snow this year, and it will be warm soon.

Classes Are Back!

Classes are back, and students are not motivated. The weather is rainy and cloudy. This is one of the reasons why students are not highly motivated to study again. Spring break passed quickly. Seven more weeks are left until the summer break. I hope it will be sunny and warm soon, so students will have bright days in their lifes. The second half of the semester should pass quickly as did the first half, and students will do their best to finish the academic year well.

Spring Break Life

Life in Alfred is quiet. Only a few students stayed on campus. The weather is getting warmer. Three days ago, I was walking around the campus and saw a deer near the dining hall. It was a small deer like in the cartoon. It is a good time to think about the life, classes, and future plans when you stay almost alone for one week. Besides sleeping and eating I go to the gym. In about two weeks, our swimming team will have a water polo match against Alfred University. It should an interesting game.

Spring Break like a Winter Break.

March 11, 2011 is the most important days for all students in Alfred State College. This is start of the spring break. All people on campus have been already packed before classes and were ready to go home after the final class. The weather during the day was cloudy and a little bit windy. But closer to the evening it started snowing again. It is cold outside and reminds me that it is not a spring. It looks more like winter in January. Many students will meet their parents, relatives, and parents today. I wish everybody to have a good break.

Spring Break

In two days, students will go on the spring break. Everybody is excited. A lot of students will have vacations and trips to other cities. This is the only break in spring semester, so students and faculty will have a good time to have a rest. Spring break is also good if someone has a homework to do on the break. The break will be one week, and Alfred State's campus will quite and almost empty because everyone will be gone. The Spring break is a good opportunity to summon strengths and be ready to study for the second half of the semester.

March 8

March 8th is an international women's day. Usually this holiday is celebrated in former Soviet Union countries. It is a big holiday, and it is a day off. Schools and universities do not hold classes on this day. Men congratulate and give presents to all women they know. It is also a good opportunity to be with your family. Many people go to restaurants and have a good time. This day is especially good because people are kind and wish each other to be happy.

Back to Cold

On March 6th, Sunday, a lot of snow fell again. It was snowing during the whole day. The wind was cold and temperature was about 18, 19 degrees. I hope it was the last snow, and this week the weather will be getting warmer. It is good that today, March 7th, the day is sunny. The winter sometimes last more than it should be but everyone wants warm spring. The snow caused people to wear boots and warm clothes again.

Getting Warmer

The winter in Alfred, NY was cold. Compared to the last winter, this one one was colder. Snow was falling almost everyday on December and January. Some classes were canceled at the beggining of the spring semester due to the bad weather conditions. This is my second winter in Alfred, and I fully understood how it is to live on the North part of America. The temperature sometimes was below zero. But I liked this weather because it was beautiful when everything around was white. When you wake up in the morning and go outside, it is unforgettable view. The winter was a real winter because a lot of snow fell, and it was cold.

Last Practice

On Tuesday, March 1, I had the last swimming practice this season. This season was very interesting, and I made some new friends. Our swimmng team went to several colleges for meets, and some meets were very absorbing to see. The last practice was short and intense. We worked on starts from blocks and flip turns. Then our assistant coach told us to meditate because on the next day the team should have gone to nationals in Buffalo. Meditation is a very good exercise because people can relax and refresh their mind. This swimming season means a lot for me because I got a big experience in communicating with people and improved my swimming techniques.

Second Test

Today, March 2, I had a second test in business communications class. I was studying for this test since last friday. But I was nervous a little bit before the test. I came to class and started to review material from the book. As it was promptly nine o'clock, we were given tests. As it appeared, the test was not so difficult. It included three sections. The test contained true and false, multiple choice, and revision of messages sections. After 50 minutes, we submitted tests. Now I will eait for my result, and I hope the result will be good.

Financial Planning and Taxes

I had a Financial Planning class on February 28, 2011. The chapter we started this day was very important becuase the the topic was taxes. I understood that paying taxes is important. Knowing how to pay taxes can allow people to reduce their tax payments to "Uncle Sam." Our professor introduced a new teacher who will be teaching financial planning next semester, and a new four-year financial planning program will be available for students. This is a good opportunity to switch to this program because the professor said that this major is very interesting, and people can make money. This major has a big stress on taxes which can help people to minimze their tax payments.

Business Comminucations 2/25

The weather was cold, and a lot of snow was in Alfred this day. Classes were not canceled. When I came to Business Communications class, only a few people were there. Six people were at the beggining of the class. But later three more people came, and we covered Chapter 8 of the textbook. The topic was about persuasive messages. This class was quiet because only nine students were there. When we finished the class, our professor told us to do assignements for the next week and prepare for the test on Unit 3.
